Details: A rare gilded 18th century Chinese repousse image of Sakyamuni Buddha. Buddha is depicted standing on an attractive and unusual quadruple lotus pedestal with an expression of blissful and compassionate wisdom. His right hand at his side in Varada Mudra and his left hand in Avakasha Mudra, held at chest level infront of the bunched hem of his long flowing and finely modelled robes. His chest is uncovered clearly displaying the Wan (Mandarin) symbol which represents Dharma, universal harmony, and the balance of opposites. His face is particularly well executed, his deep smile and compassionate eyes below an inlaid Urna work well to convey a deeply contented and enlightened
sage. Age: Qianlong 18th Century. Height: 28.5cm.
