Details: A nice example of a Chinese Liao dynasty bronze figure of Avalokiteshvara. The slender figure is standing on two lotus flowers, in a long robe, wearing a diadem and holding a lotus bud in both hands on a square raised base. Believed to be the embodiment of compassion and to deliver beings from suffering, Avalokiteshvara has long inspired faith and devotion in most Buddhist sects. Age: Liao Dynasty 960-1125 AD Height: 15 cm Remarks: As can be seen in the above photos, there is a small lead infill on back of the right shoulder, as is characteristic of the period and one small corner of the base has been chipped. |
