Details: An excellent example of a classic 12th century Khmer rock crystal Shiva Lingam sitting on its bronze Yoni. The linga or lingam (Sanskrit for "symbol") symbolizes the god Shiva and is the form in which he is most commonly worshipped. The linga is a simple stylized phallus that nearly always rests on a stylized yoni, or female sex organ. Together, the linga and yoni represent the power of creative energy and fertility. The phallic symbol is the main object of worship in Shaivite temples throughout India and the Indic world. When being worshipped the linga is honored by devotees with offerings of flowers, milk, pure water, fruit, leaves and rice. Age: 12th Century. Height: 10.5 cm, (Yoni 7cm, Lingam 5cm). Remarks: The Chinese wooden base is not included in the sale. |
