Details: A handsome and finely cast example of a gilt bronze image of the combined deity Dharmadhatu Nagisvara from Nepal. The principle deity and consort are seated upon a single lotus pedestal atop a stepped openwork inscribed peacock throne. Both deities are triple headed and multi armed holding various attributes (a few now missing) and extensively adorned with the regalia and jewellery of a royal Nepalese Buddhist couple. This is very good quality heavy casting with thick lustrous gilding and very naturalistically well balanced proportions obviously commissioned at some expense to the patron. Age: Early 19th Century (1816 A.D.). Height: 29 cm. Base Width: 24 cm. Remarks: This piece is dated and consecrated to the Nepalese calendar: Sombot Margha 936, so January – February 1816 A.D. Additional photos of both the underside of the base and the inscription are available(I didn't have enough space to fit them in above). |
